Regarding Gov. George Allen's proposed budget adjustment, I find it revealing that he was willing to cut the money destined to help the colleges and universities be open to the entire population but increase funds for an institute open only to half that population.
It seems to me that an anachronism like Virginia Military Institute, a place which trains students to become military officers while the military looks to downsize, should have less and less use for new funds.
As the United States looks to train its population for gainful employment, the proposed Tidewater Community College and all needs of Norfolk State University are much more valid. I think the message that the voters sent in November was ``No more business as usual.'' This is business as usual.
