Police will not file charges against the mother of a premature infant found dead Sunday in a trash bag.
An autopsy Monday revealed that the 26-year-old mother had miscarried.
Police found the infant about 5:20 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 1300 block of W. 25th St., police spokesman Larry Hill said.
The baby - believed to have been born about two or three months early - was in a trash bag that had been left in a green garbage can inside the residence.
Police had been alerted by doctors at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
The woman went to the emergency room about 4 a.m. with severe hemorrhaging, and doctors determined that she had recently given birth.
The woman's name was withheld because she was not charged. She remained hospitalized Tuesday. by CNB
