ON THE MOVE: NEWSOME LEADS BUILDERS GROUP FOR '95

Michael D. Newsome, vice president of Michael Lee Co. and Hampton Bay Associates, is the new president of the Tidewater Builders Association. He was elected at a meeting earlier this month and succeeds Richard L. ``Tuck'' Bowie.

Newsome, who lives in Virginia Beach, is a graduate of Montreat-Anderson College and Old Dominion University. He served this year as chairman of TBA's Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee and as vice chairman of the Chesapeake Municipal Affairs Committee and the Membership Meeting Task Force.

He also served on the TBA Executive Committee as first vice president.

Other new TBA officers: Albert E. Viola, president of Viola Building Corp., first vice president; Frederick J. Napolitano II, vice president of Napolitano Enterprises, second vice president; Russell S. Heath Jr., vice president and area manager of Crestar Mortgage Corp., associate vice president; Larry R. Hill, president of L.R. Hill Custom Builders, secretary, and Jeffrey W. Ainslie, president of Benchmark Building Corp., treasurer.

The Portsmouth/Chesapeake Association of Realtors recently presented several members with special awards.

Karen J. Seymour, of William E. Wood & Associates, was named Realtor of the Year for 1994. She serves on the associations Board of Directors and co-chairs the community outreach committee.

The Outstanding Service Award was given to Gary Crumpler, president of Area Realty, for his years of dedication to the organization.

Delaine Wood, with ERA Sasser Realty, received the 1994 Code of Ethics Award. She is chairman of the Professional Standards Committee and assists in fair housing training for new members.

Two mortgage bankers were recognized as Affiliates of the Year. JoAnn Brooks with Signet Mortgage and Chris Brown with National City Mortgage shared this award.

Diane Cote, manager of Womble Realty's Lynnhaven Office in Virginia Beach, has received the Tidewater Association of Realtors Code of Ethics Award for her ``demonstrated commitment, knowledge, practice and service'' in the area of ethics.

Cote also helped organize the realty firm's efforts to collect toys and clothing for the patients at the Edmarc Hospice for Children. Womble's Greenbrier office participated in an auction to support the Candii Program for children with AIDS.

Prudential Decker Realty has announced its top listing and sales associates for November. Frank Trygar won both honors at the Lynnhaven office.

At the Beach office, Tom Moore was top listing agent and Ann Davis, the top sales agent. John Wright was top listing agent at Great Neck, Marianne Scott was top selling agent.

At the Chesapeake office, Bettie Wuthrich was top listing agent, Breeze Gilbreath was top selling agent.

The National Association of Home Builders has chosen the Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council of the Tidewater Builders Association to test two new advanced Registered Apartment Manager training programs at TBA headquarters, 2117 Smith Ave. in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake.

David Dickerson, a lawyer, will address legal issues from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 18. Topics to be covered include landlord-tenant law, hiring and personnel issues and risk management.

On Jan. 19, also from 8:30 to 4:30, Dr. Bernie Grablowsky, president of United Property Associates, will focus on administrative operations and management skills for property managers.

Grablowsky is former chairman of the finance department of Old Dominion University.

The cost to Housing Council members is $40 per session or $70 for both sessions. The registration deadline is Jan. 13. The price includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a workbook.
