Martha Elizabeth Smithson, died Dec. 31, 1994, on her 81st birthday.
She was a native of Virginia Beach and was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Raymond W. and Myrtle H. Ward and the wife of the late Joshua J. Smithson Jr.
Mrs. Smithson is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Cook of Louisville, Ky., and Laurel Holmes of Chatham, Ill.; five sons, Guy A. Smithson of Hatteras, N.C., Wallace J. Smithson of Bracey, Va., Harry R. Smithson and Karl L. Smithson, both of Virginia Beach, and Joshua J. Smithson III, of Chesapeake; 19 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Gardens in Virginia Beach by the Rev. Harold Bergey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling the arrangements.
