LINWOOD M. BARROW

Linwood M. ``Merce'' Barrow, 72, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 1994, in a local nursing home. He was born in Norfolk, April 4, 1922, son of the late G. Eugene and Maude Moreland Barrow. He was the husband of Marie Scott Cheatham Barrow.

He served in the 386 (Timberwolf) Division of the 215th Artillery in the U.S. Army during WWII where he received the Purple Heart. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, moved to Charlottesville and then worked at Dettor, Edwards & Morris for 10 years before retiring there. He was a member of the BPOE 389. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Eugene Barrow.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Haywood of Virginia Beach; three stepchildren, Patricia Stickel and her husband, Charles of Charlottesville, Daniel Cheatham of Jacobsberg, Ohio, and Kathy Judy of Newtown, Pa.; seven stepgrandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews of Virginia Beach.

His funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at 1 p.m. at the Hill and Wood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cecil T. Pace officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight between 7 and 8 p.m. at Hill & Wood Funeral Home.
