William Edward Thomas Jr., 72, of Richmond, formerly of Norfolk, died Jan. 1, 1995.
Mr. Thomas was a retired district plant manager with C&P Telephone Co. of Virginia after 42 years of service. He also served as senior utility specialist with the State Corp. Commission in the Division of Communications for 10 years, followed by three years of consulting work for the S.C.C. He was a member of Stratford Hills United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Oxford Civic Association. He was a veteran and Master Sergeant of World War II, member of the National Association of Rainbow Division Veterans 132nd Signal Co. and Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Taylor Thomas; two sons, Lt. Col. Warren Edward Thomas of Baltimore, Md. and Norman Allan Thomas and daughter-in-law, Sandra L. Thomas of, and also two grandchildren, Wesley Allan Thomas and Karen Paige Thomas, all of Norfolk.
Remains rest at Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and where services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Stratford Hills United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the home of Norman A. Thomas following the graveside service.
