The liberal socialist agenda is perfectly illustrated in Molly Ivin's column ``Common sense shows a progressive income tax is just plain fair'' (op-ed, Dec. 22). She states that a flat tax, as purposed by Congressman Armey is unfair because the person who makes $40,000 ``feels it'' more than the person who makes $200,000.
Never mind that the person who makes $200,000 pays $30,000 and the person who makes $40,000 pays $6,000 for the same, and in many cases fewer, services.
In addition, the $200,000 person pays $608,000 over 40 years vs. $130,000 for Social Security and $15,000 per year in typical state tax vs. $2,800, and pays higher property taxes.
I guess people who make more money should pay more for clothes, Big Macs, gasoline, food, cars, Disneyland, electricity, etc. so they ``feel it'' like the people who make less.
The liberal-Democrat philosophy is based on class envy and has created a whole society of people who believe: ``They have too much and ought to give me some'' or ``They've got more then they need'' or ``A small lawsuit won't hurt,'' a society that punishes success, responsibility and productivity.
By the way, I'm in the $40,000 class and hope to be in the $200,000 class one day. Maybe by then the government will treat the $200,000 class as models instead of prostitutes.
