GRANT L. WYLIE JR.

Grant Lee Wylie Jr., 46, a sergeant in the Virginia Beach Police Department, died Jan. 1, 1995, in Norfolk.

Mr. Wylie was born in Portsmouth. He was employed as a Virginia Beach police officer on Sept. 1, 1971. All throughout his career he had received numerous commendations and outstanding appraisal ratings. In 1973 he was selected by the Virginia Beach Jaycees as Policeman of the Year. In 1975 he was selected by the City of Virginia Beach as Policeman of the Year. He was recently selected for the Top Cop Award by WTKR Channel 3. Mr. Wylie was a member of the Virginia Beach CARE Committee dealing with different franchise communities and his work was instrumental in the City of Virginia Beach in receiving a National Mayor's Award for dealing with the underprivileged. The framework was also instrumental in the Virginia Beach Police Department in receiving the Governor's Award for the strides that he made in the community policing program. Mr. Wylie obtained the rank of sergeant in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah J. Wylie; a daughter, Jennifer Leigh Wylie; two sons, Grant L. Wylie III and Mark B. Wylie; his mother, Alberta M. Wylie, and father, Grant L. Wylie Sr., all of Virignia Beach; two sisters, Ivy Milner of Virginia Beach and Toni Andrews of Irvine, Calif.; a brother, Michael B. Wylie of Virginia Beach; and matenral grandmother, Violet Boyce of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by Chaplain C.O. Bruce Smith. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant L.
