I am grateful for Larry Maddry's column, ``Decades later, villagers remember a hero'' (Dec. 21). It brought back memories of an incident during the invasion of Utah Beach, Normandy, France.
About D-Day-plus 10, residents of Ste.-Mere Eglise asked for help from the 31st Seabees for a young pregnant woman. Doctors from the 81st responded and saved the baby. The family gratefully named the girl ``Seabee Paula Fouchard.'' Dr. Sam Buxton, a retired Portsmouth dentist, still corresponds with her.
