BEATRICE A. BOWENS

Beatrice Andrews Bowens, 70, of the 400 block of Beechdale Road, died in her home on Jan. 1, 1995, in Portsmouth.

Mrs. Bowens was born in Portsmouth, daughter of the late Joseph and Virgie Andrews. She worked as a beautician for many years and later attended Norfolk State University for three years and majored in sociology. For the past 15 years she served as the director of New Testament Church Kindergarten Education Center. She was a member of the Metro Ministers Wives Fellowship and many other religious organizations. She was a member of New Testament Church where she served as a member of the choir and the Pastor's Wives Fellowship. She was a born again believer who loved her Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Elder Charles H. Bowens Jr., Pastor of New Testament Church of Portsmouth; two sons, Charles H. Bowens III of Chesapeake, Curtis M. Bowens Sr. of Portsmouth; one daughter, Cynthia E. Benton of Portsmouth; one sister, Rosetta A. Harmon of Portsmouth; three sisters-in-law, Clara Kirby and Nell Fletcher of Portsmouth and Evelyn Andrews of Chesapeake; two daughters-in-law, Peggy A. Bowens of Chesapeake and Cassandra G. Bowens of Portsmouth; one son-in-law, Mark Benton; five grandchildren; one great-grandson and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church on Greenwood Drive in Portsmouth by Pastor James Whitaker. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The body will be taken to the church at noon. Corprew Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
