DENYS F. SHERIFF

Dr. Denys Frederick Sheriff, 79 years of age, died Tuesday, January 3, 1995, in Williamsburg.

Dr. Sheriff was born in Sunderland, England and was a 1938 graduate of Durham University Medical School in Newcastle, England. He was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War II, afterwhich he practiced medicine in England until emigrating with his family to the United States in 1957. For more than twenty years he practiced medicine in South Boston, before moving to Williamsburg in 1992.

Dr. Sheriff is survived by his wife, Helen Baker Sheriff; three sons: Peter, Alan F. and John D. Sheriff, one daughter, Jean Hess, one sister Rita A. Elsey and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 1995, in Bucktrout Funeral Home at 12 noon. Officiating will be The Rev. James Kellett. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association of Hampton Roads, (NU)20 Kroger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, VA 23502, with funds designated for research.
