Elizabeth Gilleland Hilderbrand, 72, of the 300 block of South St., died in the Albemarle Hospital Tuesday.
She was a native of Catawba County, N.C., and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a postmistress. Mrs. Hilderbrand was the daughter of the late Percy Clark and Sarah Jane Frye Gilleland and the widow of the late Lewis Avery Hilderbrand. She was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church, USCG Auxiliary, and was a volunteer for the Albemarle Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Stearns of Kill Devil Hills; four sons, Steve Hilderbrand of Germany, Samuel Hilderbrand of Kill Devil Hills, Ted Hilderbrand of Mooresville, N.C., and Tony Hilderbrand of Sherrills Ford, N.C; two sisters, Betty Chamberlin of Florida and Lena Felts of Charlotte, N.C.; four brothers, Paul Gilleland of Wyoming, Earl Gilleland of Statesville, N.C., Yates Gilleland of Charlotte and Edgar Gilleland of Troutville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park. Twiford's Northside Chapel, North Road St., is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at 309 South St., Elizabeth City.
