PEARL H. BOWERS

Pearl H. Bowers, 97, of the 10700 block of New Road, died peacefully Sunday morning in her residence.

Mrs. Bowers was born in Surry County and was the daughter of the late Richard Harris and Marylizer Sharp Harris. She was a devoted lifetime member of Little Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor and was a willing worker where ever needed. Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Senior Citizens Club and was active until illness prevented it.

Mrs. Bowers was the widow of Howard Bowers and is predeceased by two sons, Asbery Bowers and Twisy Bowers, and a daughter, Ethel Faulk.

Survivors include four daughters, Bertha Williams of Norfolk, Mary Tucker of Ivor, Blanche Davis of Portsmouth and Alice Brown of Chesapeake; one son, Ernest Bowers of Zuni; one brother, Joseph Harris of Zuni; 23 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 33 great-granchildren; 21 stepgreat-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Little Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, with the Rev. Addison A. Brown officiating. The family will assemble on New Road for the processional. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
