An 83-year-old woman who was listed in critical condition in a hospital after a car accident on Christmas Day died Monday, police said.
Martha Barnes of the 800 block of Queen Elizabeth Drive died from injuries she suffered in the crash that also claimed the life of her son-in-law, William Wilson.
Wilson, 64, was the vice president for academic affairs and dean of Virginia Wesleyan College.
Police said the accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. on South Lynnhaven Road and Lynnhaven Parkway near an exit of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway.
Wilson, his wife, Martha, and Barnes had just left a church service and were exiting the expressway when Wilson failed to stop for a traffic light at the bottom of the exit ramp.
Wilson's car was struck on the driver's side by a car driven by Gregory L. Hooks, 28, of the 600 block of Biltmore Drive.
