HONORS AND AWARDS

The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission has introduced a Human Rights Award Program to honor citizens, community groups and businesses for their work in support of human rights and intergroup understanding in the community. Mayor Meyera Oberndorf presented certificates of appreciation to Kimnach Ford, the Filipino-American Community Action Group, the Virginia Beach branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Meredith Puryear, Barbara Ford of the Beach Health Clinic, Larry Felton of the city's Equal Employment Opportunity, the Tidewater Community Housing Resource Board, Social Services Director Daniel Stone and the Cape Henry Women's Club.

Plaques were presented to the 4th Precinct Police Athletic League After School Tutorial Program of the Glenwood, Parkway and Windsor Oaks elementary schools, Police Lt. James Ververa, Karen Jancaitis of Juvenile Probation and Angel L. Morales, former Human Rights Commission Chair. by CNB
