John Burden Cowand, 79, of the 800 block of N.C. Highway 305 North, died Jan. 5, 1995, at home.
Mr. Cowand was born in Bertie County, N.C., and was a retired dog warden for Bertie County, N.C., and a farmer. He was a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church, the Broad Neck Hunt Club and Obie Taylor Hunt Club.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Mitchell Cowand; two nieces and two nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Clinton Lawyer and the Rev. Robert White. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Roanoke Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. or to Connaritsa Baptist Church, Aulander, N.C. 27805.
