Curtis Bush makes his third attempt at an International Sport Karate Association title tonight when he takes on Abdel Issad of Paris at the Pavilion.
Bush, a three-time world kickboxing champion from Virginia Beach, is after a record-tying fourth ISKA world title.
The 10-round fight for the ISKA's vacant super welterweight belt is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. The undercard begins at 7:30.
Some of the card will be televised live on WTKR from 9-11 p.m.
``I believe that the long-term purpose of local TV is going to be local,'' WTKR general manager Chris Pike said. ``With cable and satellite TV bringing in about 500 channels, our niche is going to be local - news, sports, programming, and the like.''
WTKR took on the roll of promoter and fronting much of the prize purse.
``But we're not getting into this in a money-making sense,'' Pike said. ``This is just part of the overall big picture for the future.''
At age 32, Bush (38-7-2) is giving up nine years to Issad (39-1). In the last year alone, he has suffered from two head-butt cuts and has damaged his wrist in training.
``But this isn't a do-or-die fight for me,'' said Bush, known in the ring as the Explosive Thin Man. ``I'm going to keep fighting as long as I can, because I enjoy everything about it.'' by CNB
