Mrs. Helen K. Vander Vennet, 96, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1995 in Newport News, Va.
She was born in Moline, Ill., the fifth child of Col. Edward and Corilla Kittilsen, and graduated from Moline High School. She was employed at Deere & Co. prior to her marriage to Harry A. Vander Vennet Sr., also of Moline, Ill. She was president of the Moline Women Republicans Club and president of the Moline Women's Club. After her husband's death, Mrs. Vander Vennet moved to Virginia Beach in 1971 where she had been active in various women's organizations.
Mrs. Vander Vennet was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, Ill., and of Holy Family Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
She is survived by two sons, Harry A. Vander Vennet of Virginia Beach and Dr. Kenneth R. Vander Vennet of Newport News; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Paul D. and Carol Vander Vennet of Miami, Fla., K. Roger Vander Vennet of Virginia Beach, Tom A. and Melissa Vander Vennet of Orlando, Fla., Stacey A. and Rick Waller of Suffolk, Scott A. and Patty Vander Vennet of Bridgeport, Conn., Craig O. Vander Vennet of Newport News and Keith D. Vander Vennet of Baltimore, Md.; and four great-grandchildren, Charles, Marc, Elizabeth and Tate.
A funeral Mass will be conducted by Father Lee at noon on Monday, Jan. 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, Ill., followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Trimble Mortuary in Moline from 2 to 5 p.m.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1279 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
