City Manager John J. ``Jack'' Jackson is recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Doctors were able to remove all the tumor, which was not malignant, said Jackson's secretary, Betsy Cutright.
The operation was performed Dec. 29 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Jackson is expected to remain hospitalized at least another week, Cutright said late last week. He has started receiving therapy for temporary paralysis on his left side, she said.
Jackson, 50, will not have to take radiation treatments, as originally expected, because the tumor was completely removed. Doctors at first believed they would not be able to get it all because of its location.
The tumor was discovered during tests Jackson had after he was in an automobile accident in Southampton County just before Christmas. He was not seriously injured in the accident. by CNB
