The Sun heads into 1995 under the leadership of a new editor - but someone many readers already know.
Beginning Monday, John I. Pruitt returns as editor of The Virginian-Pilot's news operations in Suffolk. He lives in the city and was Suffolk editor for several years before becoming an associate editor three years ago on The Pilot's editorial page staff in Norfolk. During that time, he continued as editorial page editor of The Sun, a responsibility he plans to retain.
So, welcome home, John.
Much has changed in the Suffolk office since he was its editor - including the office itself, which moved to 157 N. Main St., the former Leggett Department Store, in early September. That building, which had stood vacant since the store closed in July 1992, is almost full again: It also houses the city's community health clinic and is being renovated to accommodate administrative offices for three divisions of the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Pruitt replaces Don Naden, who has been named community news editor. In that position, he will be responsible for The Pilot's five other city bureau staffs and their community news sections - sister publications of The Sun. Naden also will act as editor of The Citizen, which principally covers Isle of Wight County from our Smithfield bureau. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
