MELVIN A. SMITH SR.

Melvin A. ``Smitty'' Smith Sr., of the 1100 block of Wilson Road, a retired packer, died Jan. 6, 1995.

Mr. Smith was born in Norfolk. He retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station after 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church, Campostella.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Dues of Plainfield, N.J.; two sons, Mr. Melvin A. Smith Jr. of New York, N.Y., and Mr. Carl D. Smith of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Rose Burks of Norfolk; a grandchild, Francine Owens of Gaithersburg, Md.; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kathryn Bivens and Mrs. Evelyn Perry, both of Baltimore, Md.; a son-in-law, Mr. Andrew Dues of Plainfield, N.J.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Campostella, 1510 Conoga St., Norfolk, by Dr. Harold Cason. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Metropolitan Funeral Service is handling arrangements. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Family and friends will assemble at 1153 Wilson Road, Norfolk, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for funeral processional to the church.
