A 23-year-old man who was shot several times while sitting behind the wheel of his car in the Mr. Magic's nightclub parking lot early Dec. 17 has died.
The death is the second involving club patrons in recent months.
Larry E. Burrus of the 6600 block of Pilot Ave. in Norfolk, had been in critical condition in the Trauma Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital since the shooting. He died at 12:54 p.m. Saturday, said police spokesman Mike Carey.
Keith D. Holley, 25, of the 400 block of Spring Court was charged with the shooting. He was captured by a security guard at a neighboring business moments after the incident.
Police said both men had been inside Mr. Magic's before the shooting. Burrus was driving away from the club, located in the 500 block of Newtown Road, when Holley approached him, witnesses said, and shot him several times in the torso.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Holley, who is charged with malicious assault and use of a firearm in commission of a felony, was released Jan. 1 on a $15,000 bond.
The case will be referred to the Commonwealth's Attorney on Monday for review and a decision on whether to file additional charges stemming from the death.
On Oct. 28, a Mr. Magic's patron was killed in a neighboring parking lot after someone apparently followed him from the club and shot him in the head. Tracey L. Snead, of Chesapeake, died in a hospital. Police have not made an arrest in that case.
On May 10, officer Dennis K. Dorshimer was shot at by a Mr. Magic's patron as Dorshimer arrived for a fight call.
