Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:
PORTSMOUTH
On Saturday, Dec. 17, about 3:30 a.m., Willie Alfred Watford, 71, was crossing the road in the 500 block of Effingham St. when he was struck by a white car heading north. The car sped away.
Watford was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition and on life support.
Investigators have very little information about the hit-and-run vehicle other than that there should be a substantial amount of damage to the front end. A plastic license plate frame and some black and white trim were left at the accident scene.
The vehicle was last seen still heading north on Effingham Street, toward London Boulevard.
HAMPTON
Late on the afternoon of May 27, 1987, Eugene B. Morris, 73, received a phone call at his home in the 400 block of Hunlac Ave. A short time later, according to a witness, he was seen walking in the area of Beach Road and Lighthouse Drive in the city.
He has not been seen since.
Morris is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds with brown eyes and balding gray hair.
CHESAPEAKE
John S. Sawyer, 47, is wanted for probation violation resulting from his conviction on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Sawyer is described as white, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 pounds.
Theresa Mackey, 35, is wanted for probation violation resulting from his conviction on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Mackey is described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 120 pounds.
VIRGINIA BEACH
1994 was a good year for Crime Solvers, which received information that assisted Virginia Beach Police in the arrest of 283 people.
They were charged with a total of 551 crimes, ranging from violent assaults to larceny and almost $2 million in stolen property and drugs were recovered.
Crime Solvers paid $31,160 in rewards.
During 12 1/2 years of operation, Crime Solvers has helped in the arrest of 3,883 people involved in 8,158 crimes. More than $10.8 million in stolen property and drugs were recovered and $353,885 in rewards were paid.
