2 WOMEN FOUND DEAD IN HOMES UNDER A MILE APART A SUSPECT IS SOUGHT, BUT POLICE HAVE YET TO CONNECT THE CASES.

Two women were found dead Tuesday at houses within a mile of each other near Langley Air Force Base, and a suspect is sought in one of the cases.

Hampton police spokesman Donnie Moore would not say whether the deaths were related.

Police believe that one of the women was murdered and that her car was stolen afterward.

A murder warrant was issued Tuesday evening for Frank J. Lee, 32, who has no known address, said Moore. Lee is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 140 pounds, with blue eyes and red hair.

Police had not determined Tuesday whether the other woman's death was a homicide, Moore said. Her car also may have been stolen.

Neither woman was identified Tuesday night, since relatives had not been notified.

Police were first called to the 100 block of W. Gilbert St. at 12:21 p.m. when a neighbor checked on a woman living at that address. When police arrived at the apartment, they found the woman's body in the living room. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Moore would say nothing more about how the woman was killed.

The woman's car, Moore said, is a 1990 tan and brown Daihatsu with Virginia license plate FRAN 90.

Neighbors said a man was seen driving the car away from the apartment early Tuesday morning. The man, they said, had been living with the slain woman.

``I think he had just gotten out of jail or something,'' said a neighbor, Girda Williamson. ``She was trying to help him, and he moved in there.''

Less than an hour later , police were called to 18 Gibson Road when a Langley Air Force Base employee reported that her co-worker had not reported to work.

When police entered the house they found the woman's body in the kitchen, Moore said. Neighbors also reported that the woman's white 1989, four-door Hyundai was missing. The license plate is VRR 387.

Moore said the woman's death has been ruled suspicious. An autopsy has been ordered, he said.

Anyone who spots either car or has other information is asked to call the Hampton police at 727-6111.
