North Carolina Power announced Tuesday that it paid about $11.6 million in North Carolina state and local taxes in 1994.
Of the 1994 property tax payments, Northampton County's $441,879 was the company's largest. Halifax County had the second largest bill at $400,466. The Gaston and Roanoke Rapids hydroelectric facilities are located in these two counties.
Other counties receiving checks include Currituck, $190,489; Hertford, $184,839; Dare, $175,777; Washington, $84,743; Bertie, $89,506; Pasquotank, $58,646; Tyrrell, $46,424; Gates, $44,814; Warren, $31,017; Perquimans, $32,388; Chowan, $29,934; Camden, $20,448; and Beaufort, $33,351.
The largest town check of $77,406 went to Williamston.
