The Hampton Roads Admirals extended their franchise-record winning streak to eight games Tuesday night as they took a 3-0 first-period lead over the Roanoke Express and held on for a 4-3 victory.
With the victory, the Admirals moved into a tie with Richmond for second place in the ECHL Eastern Division, one point behind Charlotte.
Rick Kowalsky opened the scoring 27 seconds into the game, putting a shot under Dan Ryder's glove.
John Porco scored on a rebound at 9:22 and Matt Malgrave scored three minutes later to make it 3-0, sending Ryder to the bench.
Roanoke moved to within 3-2 before Rod Taylor beat backup goalie John Bradley with a wraparound with 7:48 left.
Roanoke's Ilya Dubkov scored on a 25-footer three minutes later to make it a one-goal game. Roanoke coach Frank Anzalone pulled Bradley with a minute to play in favor of a sixth attacker, but the Express could not convert.
``You can't fall behind 3-0 against any team,'' Anzalone said.
