Lake Taylor has a perfect 12-0 record in the Virginia Duals National Team Wrestling championships.
And Friday night's 7 p.m. match against Salem at Hampton Coliseum should extend that streak.
This year's match promises to be more exciting than past events, which have featured a less superior Titan team going up against equal competition.
``Our team has been progressing,'' Lake Taylor co-coach Russell Flynn said. ``We've been at the bottom of the heap.''
But the Titans are slowly climbing out of the pile and are nearing the top. Lake Taylor was ranked fourth in the most recent poll, which should make the Virginia Dual match against No. 6 Salem ``a barn burner,'' as Flynn says.
Going into the match, the Titans boast four ranked wrestlers to two for Salem.
The marquee match is at 119 where Salem's top-ranked Chip Reyes meets No. 3 Tremaine Baker.
Other ranked Titans are Donnie Jimenez (No. 3 at 112), his brother Joel (No. 2 at 130)and Brad Vera (No. 2 at 275).
``We like the Duals,'' Flynn said. ``The kids love being in the Coliseum. We don't have anything to lose. If we win, we'll stay right where we are. But this means a lot to us because it's going to be a good match.''
