ELIZABETH RIVER CLAMS: AFTER YOU, SCIENTISTS

Scientists and health experts are studying the possibility of harvesting Elizabeth River clams for humans to eat.

We are all for science. And we are all for studies. Without studies, editorial writers would fall short of crises to lament.

But there is something about the steel color of the Elizabeth River that disturbs us. We have never swum in the river, let alone eaten clams from it.

One modest proposal: If scientists determine that clams from the Elizabeth River are safe to eat, let them gulp down the first six dozen.

We'll observe the scientists, in a study of our own, and might eat Elizabeth River clams ourselves, after about a month. by CNB
