The department was chosen because of its concentrated and intensive traffic enforcement program, which included stepped-up enforcement action at high-risk accident locations and a sobriety checkpoint program. The Chesapeake Police Department has credited a private, public partnership with helping to get the message out about traffic safety.
John T. Hanna Award is presented by the Concerned Citizens Advocating Traffic Safety organization.
