CHESAPEAKE GENERAL'S REVENUES HAVE CLIMBED 22.5% IN 2 YEARS

Chesapeake General Hospital's annual report shows that the hospital's total revenues have climbed steadily to $93.5 million from $76.3 million two years ago.

The report covers the 1994 fiscal year, which ended June 30.

``The continued steady growth just reflects the continued steady growth of the city,'' said Randy Cromwell, vice president of finance for the hospital. Cromwell pointed to the $37.8 million spent on employee payrolls as proof that the facility continues to be one of the city's primary employers, with nearly 1,500 employees.

``We've also asked for 14 more intensive care beds to help us keep up with the growth,'' he said. ``Otherwise, we seem to be in pretty good shape.''

There were no real surprises in this year's annual report, officials said. Outpatient visits increased with about 12,300 more patients than in 1992. And emergency room visits also climbed to 47,730 from 45,947 two years ago.

A new CT scanner and other equipment cost the hospital about $5 million in 1994. And to give patients easy access to cancer care services, construction began earlier this year on a new cancer treatment center. The center is expected to be completed this spring, and it will add radiation therapy to complete the hospital's scope of cancer services. The cancer services include diagnosis and treatment to prevention, education and support groups.

Bringing in fewer donations than in the past two years, the hospital solicited $3,457 in 1994 compared with nearly $71,000 the year before and $55,629 in 1992.

But volunteers still help out regularly with 274 of them logging in 62,054 hours of service in 1994.
