The year was 1989 when Tim Hardaway received the MVP award in the
Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, then held at the Wilson High
School gym. Hardaway, from Texas-El Paso, played for Sales Systems
Ltd. His team lost to Dolsey Ltd., 104-103, in the PIT title game,
but Hardaway scored 69 points in three games, had 15 assists and 11
steals. A first-round draft pick by Golden State that year, Hardaway
has been a standout NBA player with the Warriors since. He is one of
the NBA leaders in assists.
