UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN WENT OVER THE TOP

As volunteer chairman for the 1994 United Way campaign in Virginia Beach, I would like to extend my most heartfelt thanks to the generous contributors and terrific campaign volunteers for exceeding this year's campaign goal.

Through the enormous efforts of volunteers, organizations and individuals who worked tirelessly to unite the community in a common goal, a total of $2,194,342 - 104.5 percent of goal - was raised to support local human-service agencies in our community. This amount represents the highest ever achieved in Virginia Beach; and along with the other South Hampton Roads cities, the regional campaign goal of $15.2 million was surpassed.

Because of our successful United Way campaign in Virginia Beach, agencies like the Beach Health Clinic will continue to provide medical care to individuals who have no health insurance, the Samaritan House will be able to continue to shelter families through tough times, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters will make the connection between caring volunteers and youth in our area.

These are only a few of the many agencies that receive funding from United Way. Across South Hampton Roads there are many families and individuals who need the serv-ices provided by United Way agen-cies.

I am deeply grateful to the volunteers I worked with and to the contributors who live and work in the Virginia Beach community. Thank you all for caring - the United Way.
