SALVI-CASE PUBLICITY OVERDONE

The attention given to the Salvi case by the news media, including The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star, has been overdone. The two murders he is charged with, along with the Paul Hill slayings last year, have been used by the liberal media to make a case against the pro-life movement in general. Of course, it is wrong to murder, and the great majority of those opposed to abortion would agree. It is never right to repay evil with evil.

I am a staunch right-to-life advocate and condemn murder of human beings, whether in the womb or out. God created all of us and knew us before we were formed. Are we so smart and pragmatic as to abort something that God planned every detail of generations before we were born? Abortion is another example of man's futile attempt to take God's place.

If John C. Salvi III were alleged to have murdered two people in the holdup of a convenience store, your newspaper would have devoted only a few paragraphs to it, if anything, and that would have been the end of the matter. A perfect example is in your Jan. 8 edition. A picture shows two women grieving the murders of six people in a New York apartment. The description is limited to two sentences. I doubt we'll ever hear about that event again.
