WILLIAM R. SCOTT

William Robert Scott, of the 5200 block of Locke Lane, Virginia Beach, died Jan. 11, 1995, at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Cdr. William Robert Scott, USN (Ret.), served his country with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his career his accomplishments were honored with many awards. Cdr. Scott graduated from Michigan State University and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He served on the transition team of President Jimmy Carter after his defeat of President Gerald Ford.

At the time of his death, he was a deputy sheriff with the city of Virginia Beach. He was also associated with Cape Henry Collegiate for special events.

Survivors include his wife, Donna D. Scott; a son, William Keith Scott of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Linda Corinne Blount of Burke, Va., and Elizabeth Ann Scott of Norfolk; son-in-law, Steven J. Blount of Burke, Va.; and two grandchildren, Robert J. Blount and Kathleen Marie Scott. Cdr. Scott was the son of the late Charles R. Scott and Emma Scott of Urbana, Ohio. Two sisters, Miriam Schaffner and Violet Bailey of Urbana, Ohio; brothers, Harlan Scott of Urbana, Ohio, Carleton Scott of St. Paris, Ohio, Donald Scott of Sidney, Ohio, Ernest Scott of Lakeview, Ohio, Richard Scott and Gail Scott of Marysville, Ohio.

Cdr. Scott was a member of Community Methodist Church, Retired Officers Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Retired Limited Duty Officers Association.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995, at 2 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Tommy Reynolds and Chaplain Kent Gardner. Burial with full military and full law enforcement honors will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence, 5253 Locke Lane, Virginia Beach, and they will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m.
