WALTER J. HOWELL

Walter J ``Walt'' Howell, 50, of the 100 block of Dwight St., died Jan. 8, 1995, in his home.

He was a native of Portsmouth, Va., and was a machine operator for New England Dye and Casting Company. He had worked there for 10 years. He was a former member of Zion Bethel United Church of Christ, Portsmouth and the Widow Son Lodge (NU)1, Order of Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Howell; two daughters, Brenda Smoakes and Ruth H. Hoff, both of New Haven, Conn.; his step-mother, Mary Howell of Portsmouth, Va.; four sisters, Delores Faircloth, Rosezia Whichard, and Faith Banks, all of Portsmouth, and Shirley McMillan of New Haven, Conn.; three brothers, Eddie Howell, Albert Junior Howell and Earnest Howell, all of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Keith Hoff Jr. and Shenqua Howell; one brother-in-law, Elijah McMillan; two sons-in-law, Keith Hoff Sr. and John Smoakes; and other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Corprew Funeral Home by the Rev. Herman Williams. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with Masonic Honors. Viewing will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at the home of his brother, Earnest Howell, 1800 Effingham St., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral service.
