BATHROOM GADGET PROMISES END TO SOAP ``MELTDOWN''

Tired of ugly soap-dish buildup? Weary of watching the meltdown of a new bar of soap as the hot shower water rains on it?

The SoapSaver, a new user-friendly product out of California, is an idea that might float at your house. The uncomplicated accessory suspends rather than cradles a bar of soap so it does not sit in icky water. The product quickly pays for itself because soap in a saver lasts much longer than soap in a dish, claims the manufacturer of the device, Sterling Enterprises of Santa Barbara.

The SoapSaver, which attaches to the tile at the sink, shower or tub, has a magnet that holds a crown resembling a bottlecap. The crown is pressed into a bar of soap, which then hangs high and dry although the soap may be removed and replaced with an easy twist of the wrist, says the manufacturer.

The product is available through catalogs such as Faucet Outlet and Home Trends Or you can order one by calling the manufacturer at 1-800-688-3423, or sending $9.95, postage paid, to Sterling Enterprises, 944 Cheltenham Rd., Santa Barbara, CA 93105. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
