You can be a columnist for The Sun.
We know there are readers longing for a forum for their opinions and feel constrained by the 250-word limit on letters to the editor. So, to expand opportunities for readers to have their say, we'll accept essays of about 500 words.
We'll continue running letters to the editor, of course.
Columns should be on local issues or on matters that apply to people in general. We're looking for such topics as city government, schools, neighborhoods, youth concerns and reminisces.
It's not a free-for-all - no foul language or name-calling tolerated, for instance - but we do want a broad range of views, in your own words. Please, though, hold to the 500-word limit. (That's about 1 1/2 typewritten pages.)
We'll accept submissions by delivery to the office at 157 Main St., by mail or by computer. The e-mail address: Pruitt(AT)infi.net.
Also, we'd like a photograph and a short biography of the writers.
If you want to discuss a topic before writing, call me at 934-7553. Otherwise, just send them on.
