OBICI RECOGNIZED: The Suffolk Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce has announced that Obici Hospital has been selected as the 1994 recipient of the annual Planters' Business and Education Award for the Outstanding School-Business Partner of the Year.
Obici Hospital has been a partner with Lakeland High School since it opened in 1990. Obici employees donate an average of 200 hours a month to partnership activities with the high school through close involvement in Lakeland's ``High Schools That Work'' reform grant and the school's class for teen parents.
Obici also has taken a leadership role in starting the Graduation, Reality, and Dual-Role Skills (GRADS) program at both Lakeland and Nansemond River high schools. GRADS seeks to encourage teen parents to graduate from high school so they can better provide for their babies.
Entire Obici departments have volunteered their time and expertise to host full-day, job-shadowing experiences for Lakeland teachers.
The Hospital will be formally recognized by Planters at the annual dinner sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Jan. 26. by CNB
