PAUL L. GIBSON JR.

Paul L. ``Pappy'' Gibson Jr., 65, of 2531 West Azalea Point Rd., a self-employed restaurant owner, died Jan. 14, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital after a heroic battle against cancer.

He was born in Thomasville, North Carolina and was the husband of Lucille C. ``Teeny'' Gibson, his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 46 years. Pappy retired from the Navy in 1970 as a YN1, began a second career as a state magistrate, retiring in 1994. Pappy also owned Pappy's Restaurant and the Hacienda restaurant in Norfolk. Pappy was an active member of the Norview Masonic Lodge (NU)113 AF and AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, the Khedive Temple and a past member of The Mini-Model T's. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille C. ``Teeny'' Gibson; a daughter, Carol A. Benton of Norfolk; four sons, Steven L. Gibson of Chesapeake, Joe M. Gibson of Jefferson, Maine, and Gregory P. Gibson and Richard J. Gibson, both of Norfolk; a brother, Wilkes Gibson of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Casey, David, Allison, Nikki, Neal, Nicholas, Carter and Katherine; and two daughters-in-law, Lindsay and Su.

A funeral with Masonic rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by Dr. W.F. Gregory. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday to receive friends and all other times at his residence.
