Lonia Turner Bynum, 61, died at home after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1995.
She was born in Southampton County, Va., between Dory and Manry, on March 4, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Emmette and Eva Turner. After her graduation here, Mrs. Bynum first moved to Richmond, Va., and then to Philadelphia, Pa., and New York where she spent her entire career.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Bynum Jr. of Courtland; one sister, Ruth Turner Copeland of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Herbert Nathaniel Darden of Suffolk; nine stepchildren; two aunts, Estelle Turner Johnson and Virgie Turner Morris, both of Wakefield Road, Courtland, Va.
She was preceded in death by her loving aunt, Ada Frances Ricks; three sisters; and two stepchildren.
A funeral was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995, with the Elder John R. Williams officiating. Burial was in Ricks family cemetery on Indian Branch Road, Courtland, Va. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home, Franklin, handled the arrangements.
