WHEN IT COMES TO life-saving techniques, very few people - about 1 percent - would know what to do and could do it, says John Hardy.
And he likes being among that 1 percent, which is good, because the 47-year-old Chuckatuck resident is the training officer for the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad.
``That's just the type of personality I have,'' he says. ``I'm not the kind that likes to sit back in a crowd. I like to be pitching in and helping.''
Hardy has been on the Isle of Wight squad for about seven years, the past three years as its first lieutenant training officer. He is responsible for seeing that all 83 volunteer members get the training and education required by the state.
Although Hardy lives in Suffolk's Chuckatuck section, he says he joined the Isle of Wight squad because it's the closest squad to his home.
