I went to my bank today, and once again I was reminded that it shares a building with Hillcrest Clinic. Today it was the policemen and policewomen at all the corners who reminded me. I hesitated. The thought that some crazy person could drive by and start shooting, and my children would be motherless, slowed my hand on the door. Then anger flared!
No! The man who killed those people in Massachusetts was a terrorist, and the only way to defeat terrorism is not to be terrified of it.
Easy for me to say. I who was there for 15 minutes in another part of the building. What about the people who work there in the clinic; what about the fathers and pregnant women who make the difficult decision not to continue a pregnancy? How could they not be afraid when they were the targets of maniacs?
Why aren't all good Christians shouting out in horror? Why are people who profess to be Christians defending this act? Wouldn't Jesus be appalled? What Christ are they following?
It's time to fight back, not with terrorism but with numbers. There are many people who believe in a woman's right to choose to have an abortion. We have to be counted. The people who accept, tolerate and condone terrorism don't believe in democracy, but I do.
