Sally Dyal ``shared her voice with everyone,'' Manteo High School Principal Linda Holmes said Tuesday in paying tribute to the veteran teacher and singer.
``She touched the lives of young and old through her teaching, her singing and her participation in the community,'' Holmes said.
Friends and admirers in that community already are seeking contributions for a fund to educate the two children of Mrs. Dyal, who died Monday in a Norfolk hospital of complications following a severe asthma attack. She was 46.
Survivors include her husband, David Earl Dyal, daughters Mary Elizabeth and Mollie Rebecca, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Sorrells of Lexington.
Mrs. Dyal taught English and French at Manteo High School for 19 years and was the faculty adviser to the yearbook staff. She sang in the outdoor drama, ``The Lost Colony,'' for 10 years.
``I loved Mrs. Dyal, and I can't imagine her not being here,'' said Jenny Perkins, a senior at the high school. ``I can't imagine not having her to answer my yearbook questions, or to have someone else teach me French.''
Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m. Friday at Lauderdale Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lexington. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Harrison's Funeral Home in Lexington.
A memorial service, for students, colleagues and friends to attend, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Manteo High School.
Contributions to the educational fund for the daughters of Mrs. Dyal can be sent to the Sally Dyal Memorial Fund in care of Principal Holmes, Manteo High School, Manteo, N.C. 27954. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
