Clara D. Scott of the 2100 block of Allison Drive passed January 16, 1995, in her residence. Mrs. Scott, a native of Norfolk, was the daughter of the late Lacy and Flossie Fields. She was a retired nurse by profession. She was the widow of Raymond A. Scott, Sr. to whom she was married for 54 years.
For many years, Mrs. Scott, or ``Mama Scott'' as she was affectionately called, was a resident of the Lamberts Point section of Norfolk, where she was very active in civic matters and concerns for her community where her efforts earned her the nickname, ``Mayor of Lamberts Point.''
Her early religious affiliations included membership at the First Bapt. Church, Bute St. (Norfolk). After marriage, she joined her husband in fellowship at the First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, where she was an organizer and president of the Floral Club. She was also a member of the Gospel Chorus, Nurses Club and the female usher board. Mama Scott loved attending various church services, and could be found shouting at every revival in town if she knew about it, proclaiming, ``I'm just telling the Lord thank you''.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian E. Corprew and Gloria Scott-Vann of Chesapeake, Va., one son, Raymond A. Scott Jr. of Va. Beach, a devoted granddaughter DeVaughn Scott-Smith of Norfolk, Va., a brother Earl Fields of Norfolk, Va., fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, at First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, at 12:00 noon, Dr. Marvin Williams, officiating. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Graves Funeral Home rendering professional services.
The family wishes to thank Norfolk Community Hospital staff, relatives, and friends for their many acts of kindness shown during the illness and passing of our loved one. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
