In response to ``Misguided gifts'' (letter, Dec. 30): The Salvation Army does not have more money than sense.
As a crisis-center volunteer I have nothing but praise for the Salvation Army. An excellent example is the story of a foreign ODU student who is Muslim was alone on Christmas Eve. A caring professor saw him and asked with whom and where he would spend Christmas day. The student didn't know.
The concerned professor called the Salvation Army for help. Within 15 minutes, it had located three Muslim families that wanted the young student to spend the holidays with them. This, in my opinion, is caring above and beyond the call of duty.
In 15 years as a crisis-center volunteer, I have never had a negative response from the Salvation Army. I cannot praise this organization enough. It is always there.
