JAMES P. TURNER

James P. Turner of the 300 block of Carver Circle, died Jan. 18, 1995, in Maryview Hospital.

Mr. Turner was born in Capron, Va., and was the widower of Jennie L. Turner. He retired as a vehicle operator from the Norfolk Naval Air Station after 35 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter (NU)27. He was a member of Retired P.W.C. Truck Drivers Association, Charles Peete Little League and Pop Warner Football Association, and was president of the Family Hunt Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Fonseca of Portsmouth; four sons, Garlon L. Turner of Birmingham, Ala., Gilbert O. Turner of Charlotte, N.C., Glenn O. Turner and Garrick A. Turner, both of Portsmouth; two sisters, Esmond O. Lambert of Portsmouth and Doretha Lassiter of Chesapeake; a brother, Jessie E. Turner of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Noble Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie T. Northam. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing will begin at noon Sunday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Monday.
