ENTRY DEADLINE WEDNESDAY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

Entries will close on Wednesday for the 41st annual Norfolk Bowling Association Championship.

The tournament will start on Saturday, Feb. 11, with teams competing at Pinboy's of Lynnhaven and individual events at Plaza Bowl. Both centers are in Virginia Beach.

Entries just closed for the 38th annual Tidewater Women's Bowling Association Championship, which gets under way on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Norfolk centers will be the tournament site. Team events will be at Pinboy's Military. Singles and doubles will be at Pinboy's of Norfolk.

TWBA secretary Reba Callis said final entries are now being tabulated but the field will be very similar to last year's. ``We have about 180 teams and may be up just a few in singles and doubles,'' said Callis. ``We're pleased with the entries.''

Bowler of the Week honors go to two pinbusters in the Industrial Tenpin League at Pinboy's of Norfolk.

Bobby Dizon became the area's newest 800 Club member. A 179-average bowler, Dizon also gained Century Club membership with a 279 game in his 806 series.

Dizon opened with a 262 game and closed with a 265.

Pat Dineen, fresh from a 300 game just a week earlier at Plaza Bowl, shot another 12-striker. Dineen followed games of 227 and 237 with his 300 for a blistering 764 series.

Tenpin topics: Blossoming star Leslie Livesay registered the eighth highest series ever for a local woman league bowler with 736 in the Charles Peete League at Pinboy's of Norfolk. She had games of 234, 279 and 223. . . . Doug Garnett, a 175-average bowler in the Saturday Nite Moonliters League at Pinboy's of Western Branch, barely missed a 300. He left the No. 10 pin after 11 in a row en route to a 676 series. He finished with games of 179 and 198. . game was racked up in the Pinbuster League at Pinboy's Military. . . . Alma Cain rolled an all-spare 180 in the Cosmopolitan League at Pinboy's of Norfolk. . . . Mike Askew tossed an all-spare 183 game in the Friday Mixers League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake. He averages 143. . . . Gary Park, who averages 198, nearly had a impressive 248 triplicate. He followed a pair of 248s with a 249 for 745 in the Friday Fun Bunch League at Plaza Bowl. . . . Youth leaguer Kristi Richards fired a 232 game and 620 series in the Big/Little League at Indian River. . . . Curtis Woollard joined the Century Club with his 254 in the Pinboy's Classic League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake. He averages 152. . . . . . . Jeff Ewell flipped a 194 triplicate in the Tuesday Men's Commercial League at Pinboy's of Norfolk. . . . Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, Feb. 1 for the 32nd annual Portsmouth Women's Bowling Association city tournament. It is not scheduled until March 4-5 and will be held at Scott Center Strike Zone at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. . . . Chuck Willis had the thrill of hitting his first 700 with 711 in the U.S. Postal League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake. He had a 278 single. . . . In the same league Mike Head also rolled a 278. . . . Other gems of the week: 279 by Herman Sutton in the Prime Timers Senior League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake; 287 by Dwight Walsh in the Tuesday Men's Commercial League at Pinboy's of Western Branch; 279 by Andrew Johnston in the Tuesday Splitters League at Pinboy's of Lynnhaven; Bill Stillman's 279 in the Saturday Nite Moonliters League at Pinboy's of Western Branch; and 277 by Tim Morgan in the Saturday Junior/Major at Pinboy's of Western Branch. Morgan is an 18-year-old with a 189 average. . the Wednesday Break League at Pinboy's of Norfolk. . . . Fran Sansone racked up a 277 single in the Saturday Nite Live League at Plaza Bowl. . . . A 256 game featured Myra Eason's 607 series in the Monday Nite Mixed League at Pinboy's Military. . . . Floyd Cross's 212 was the first 200 game ever for the 144-average bowler and was chalked up in the Thursday Nite Mixed League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake. . . . The ABC Tournament opens on Saturday, Feb. 4. Entries closed on Jan. 5.

DUCKPIN DATA: Barbara Turner, a 96-average bowler in the Wednesday Morning Ladies League at Victory Lanes, posted a nine-mark 173 game. She missed a National Congress ring award by only six pins. Turner had a two fill on her final mark. ``I was really nervous,'' she said.. . . Bowlarama youth leaguer Bobby Coley nearly had a sparkling 132 triplicate, following a pair of 132s with a 130 for 394. . . . The Portsmouth Match Game champion will be crowned today at Victory Lanes. The championship finals will start at 7 p.m. . . . Ever-alert reader Taylor Eunice points out that only two current world records in duckpins, not three, were rolled locally. The men's 12-game record by Buddy Creamer at Collinwood Lanes in 1983 has been erased by Scott Wolgamuth of Mansfield, Ct., who racked up 2,066 to top Creamer's old standard by 41 pins. Doubles League, a new league record for women. . . . Wicky Chiera zipped his average up three pins with a 450 series in the Industrial League. . . . Kendra Allen pitched another 400 with 402 in the Victory Youoth League. In the same league Billy Schoenfeld came up with a 142 game. . . . The Victory Lanes Singles Handicap Tournament will start on Sunday, Feb. 5 and is a 20-game four-block tournament over four Sundays. Entry fee is $25 per block and the winner, based upon 32 entries, will pocket $1,000l. With 32 entries, a prize fund of 2,175 will be paid out. . . . Cecil Gautier blasted a 178 game in the Tuesday Nite Mixed League. by CNB
