JAMES S. BARNES

James Smith Barnes, 70, of 503 Clay St., died Sat. Jan. 21, 1995, at his home.

Mr. Barnes was born in Severn, N.C., and was formerly of Suffolk and Achilles, Va. Mr. Barnes was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired mechanic and former owner of Barnes and Sons Garage in Achilles. He was Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters: Carolyn H. Bryant of Franklin and Judy Kay Middleton of Berlin, Md.; two stepdaughters: Rose and Dale and three stepsons: Edward, Jerry, and Curtis Hall all of Achilles, Va.; one sister: Inez Lecznar of Virginia Beach; one brother: Curtis Barnes of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday Jan. 24 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk by Rev. David Erickson. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, from 7 to 8:30 PM Monday and suggest memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851.
