JAMES E. HUGHES JR.

James Edward Hughes, Jr., 73, of the 100 block of Westonia Road, a retired rigger, died Jan. 20, 1995, in his residence.

He was a native of Deep Creek, Va. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop (NU)72 after 35 years and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Stella C. Hughes; two daughters, Kathy H. Rice and husband Billy of Chesapeake and Patti B. Hodges and husband Buz of Houston, Texas; two sons, William E. ``Bill'' Hughes and wife Rosemary of Chesapeake and C.D. Bailey and wife Jackie of Winter Springs, Fla.; sister-in-law Gladys Powell and husband Dr. Kenneth Powell of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Lora and George Bogdan of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Dr. Roscoe Musselwhite, Dr. Kenneth Powell and the Rev. Ernie Myers. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Wellspring Hospice Care of Maryview Medical Center.
