Horace M. Gaskins, 76, of Ocracoke, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 1995, in a local health center.
Mr. Gaskins was born in Ocracoke and was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the N.C. Dept. of Transportation Ferry Division. He was a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Spencer Gaskins and the husband of Mrs. Mary O'Neal Gaskins.
Besides his wife, survivors include, two daughters, Linda G. Gaskill and Judith G. Gaskill, both of Ocracoke; two step-daughters, Louise O'Neal and Maxine Mason, also of Ocracoke; one step-son, Lewis J. Tolleson of Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Madora G. Garrish of Ocracoke; three brothers, Frank Gaskins of Waterlilly, N.C., and John Gaskins and Earl H. Gaskins, both of Ocracoke; one grandson, Joseph W. Gaskill Jr. of Ocracoke; and three step-grandsons, Charles Mason, Ikey O'Neal and Rodney Mason, all of Ocracoke.
Funeral services will be conducted Jan. 24, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tim Lynch and Lisa Bledsoe. Burial will follow in the family cemetery. The body will be placed in the church Monday afternoon. Twiford Island Chapel, Hatteras, is handling arrangements.
